PALMDALE - A $10.6 million program is aimed at repaving 28 miles of city streets by this fall. Roughly 11 percent of the city's total street surface will be repaved in the program, with $10 million of the funding to be repaid with future city revenues. The work is expected to be completed in October. ``This is the largest resurfacing program we've had in find out the city,'' said Public Works Director Leon Swain. The work, to be done in four phases, should last for 10 to 15 years, Swain said. The focus is on major traffic arteries and on aging streets in neighborhoods built in the 1950s, Swain said. Streets in the neighborhood bounded by Avenue R, Palmdale Boulevard, 20th Street East and 15th Street East wikipedia reference will be resurfaced in the first phase, as will eight sections of major traffic arteries. The eight are Avenue T from Fort Tejon to Littlerock Creek, 10th Street West from the Antelope Valley Freeway to Rancho Vista Boulevard, 10th Street West from Avenue O to O-4, Rancho Vista Boulevard between the freeway and Fairway Drive, Avenue N between 55th and 60th streets west, Avenue M-8 from 60th visite site to 70th streets west, and two sections of Avenue M - one between 60th and 70th streets west and the other between the freeway and Sierra Highway. Major streets to be resurfaced in the second phase will be Rayburn Road from Division Street to Tierra Subida, Palmdale Boulevard between the freeway and 10th Street West, Avenue R from Fifth Street East to Sierra Highway, Fifth Street East from Avenue S to Avenue R, Fifth Street West between Avenue Q-8 to Tierra Subida, and Sixth Street East between Palmdale Boulevard and Avenue R. This phase also will cover streets in the neighborhood bounded by Avenue R, Avenue R-6, 10th Street East and Prentiss Avenue. The third phase will cover Avenue R from 35th Street East to 47th Street East, 40th Street East from Avenue Q to Avenue S, and neighborhood streets in the area bounded by Avenue R, Avenue R-12, Third Street East and Fifth Street East. To be resurfaced in the final phase are Avenue O from 100th to 120th streets east, Avenue Q from Sierra Highway to 40th Street East, 110th Street East between Avenues O and Q, Avenue S from 25th Street East to 47th Street East, 25th Street East from Palmdale Boulevard to Avenue S, and Avenue S between 40th and 50th streets east.
